AFTERCARE
Wrap or Second Skin
Your wrap should be left on for 3 to 6 hours. Do not re-wrap once it’s been removed.
You may experience a bit of redness/ swallowing around the tattoo - this is completely normal so don’t worry!
Wash
After removal, gently wash the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild liquid soap, like Carex, Dr Bronner’s Pure Castile, or green soap. Pat with a paper towel and leave it to air dry for an hour before moisturising.
Moisturise
After you air dry the area, apply a thin layer of unscented moisturiser. A few great options are my own specialist tattoo aftercare butter (feel free to ask about it!) Aveeno daily moisturising lotion, or cacao butter/coconut oil.
Keep it Up!
Keep up this routine for 7-10 days minimum. After the initial wash, there’s no need to wait an hour before applying moisturiser, just pat dry/moisturise and you’re good to go.
This routine is the most important part of healing your tattoo so try your best to remember!
Key Things to Avoid
1. Leaving the bandage on for too long
2. Shaving the area
3. Direct sunlight
4. Contact with pets
5. Submerging your tattoo in water (swimming, baths, hot tubs, etc) for at LEAST a month
Clothing
Keeping your tattoo exposed to air is crucial to the healing process so try to wear loose-fitting clothing that won’t rub against it, especially during the first couple of days.
Healing
Fine line tattoos are generally a lot gentler on the skin than bolder tattoos, however you may still experience a bit of peeling and itching. To prevent infection and preserve the colour, don’t scratch or pick at the area – try gently tapping it instead.
Healing times vary, but the longer you follow all of the above steps, the better your tattoo will look over time.
Side-Effects to Look Out For
On the rare occasion you think your tattoo may be infected, seek medical advice. Signs or symptoms include prolonged redness at the site, green/yellow discharge, and/or fever.
